Integrating Healthy Lifestyle Habits Into the School Curriculum as a Model to Drive a Culture of Wellbeing Within Schools and Communities: Reflections and Learnings from the DSG Lifestyle Program.

Lindsay Davy

DSG Lifestyle is a holistic wellness program embedded in the school curriculum, aimed at fostering health, wellbeing, and personal sustainability. Grade 8 and 9 girls complete eight immersive courses blending theory and practical experience to foster lifelong healthy habits. Courses cover nutrition, emotional regulation, and physical literacy to environmental connection, community care, and body positivity. Activities include nature walks, structured rest, unstructured play, cooking, community outreach, and various forms of movement, including dancing, cycling, walking, and swimming. From Grade 10-12, the program transitions into extracurricular opportunities, where girls can obtain recognised qualifications and lead classes both at school and within the wider community. The program cultivates leadership, empathy, and resilience, promoting wellbeing as a way of life. This presentation explores the program’s development, philosophy, and impact, demonstrating how integrating wellness into education empowers young women to lead balanced lives, to hopefully become mothers who will be intentional about raising the next generation in the same way.
