01The Idea

Education is about far more than exams. It's about life.

A gathering of educators, parents, policymakers and changemakers, asking what schooling could be if we truly started with the child.

We mean it literally. During these three days we'll challenge old assumptions, question familiar models and rewrite what education can become.

The inaugural conference, hosted at Redhill from 17–19 October 2025, brought together some of the brightest minds in education, from Finland's creative-learning pioneers to national thought leaders in AI, creativity and neuroscience. Every session struck out an old assumption and wrote in a new possibility.

The feedback was overwhelming: inspiring, thought-provoking, deeply energising. In 2026, we go further.

02The Soul

Every decision should start with one question: is this best for the child?

Not the test score. Not the system. Not the timetable. The child in front of you. That conviction is the heart of everything we do here.

When you put the child at the centre, everything else falls into place, and a thousand old assumptions fall away.

It sounds simple. It isn't. It means rethinking assessment, timetables, technology and the role of the teacher, and finding the courage to change whatever no longer serves the student. That's the work of these three days.

Innovation isn't something we talk about. It's how we decide.

Education doesn't move forward when schools work in isolation. Redefine exists because here at Redhill, we believe the best schools learn from one another: openly, generously, and without pretending to have all the answers.

Redefine is our invitation to educators everywhere: learn together, challenge assumptions, share what works, and collectively shape the future of education. 06Where it all started

Redefine began with a simple belief.

Not that we had the answers. But that education moves forward when people are willing to ask better questions.

That shared belief brought together two Redhill educators who saw an opportunity to create something bigger than a conference: a conversation that belongs to education itself.

Joseph Gerassi

Executive Head | Redhill School

When Joseph Gerassi co-founded Redefine, it wasn't because he believed he had the answers. It was because he believed education needed a better place to ask the questions.

With more than three decades of educational leadership in South Africa and abroad, Joseph has challenged conventional thinking about what schools can be. Under his leadership, Redhill has grown into one of South Africa's leading independent schools, recognised nationally and internationally for its future-focused approach to teaching, learning and innovation.

Guided by the belief that every decision should begin with one question, is this best for the child, Joseph has championed innovation not as an end in itself, but as a way to create richer, more meaningful learning experiences for young people.

For Joseph, Redefine is an invitation to educators everywhere to think openly, challenge assumptions and ask the better questions that will shape the future of education.

Dr Angie Mullins

Head of Innovative Pedagogy and Professional Development | Redhill School

Dr Angie Mullins co-founded Redefine with Joseph. She believes meaningful change begins long before new technologies or new curricula. It begins with new ways of thinking.

Her work bridges research and classroom practice, helping educators build learning environments that are innovative, inclusive and deeply human. With expertise spanning future-focused education, instructional leadership, neuroscience and professional learning, she is passionate about equipping teachers for a world that continues to change.

For Angie, Redefine creates the space where ideas become practice, and where educators leave with new possibilities they can carry back into their own schools.
